Zack, Outdoors

Friday, March 30th, 2007

It has gotten nice in Michigan in the last little bit.  Our weather is warming and our grass is greening.  Of course Zack has no memory of his past summer so he doesn’t recall being on the grass or in our yard.  Yesterday I put him down and rather than being his usual squirmy, energetic self he refused to move.  He’s never just sat in one place–ever.  I decided yesterday that this presented the perfect opportunity to snap a few (okay, a hundred) pictures of him.  Here are a few from this morning’s “sitting.”  They haven’t been edited or cropped so what you see is what I took–nothing special aside from my baby of course.

And no–he still doesn’t have (much) hair.  And yes–he is finally gaining weight.  With his breakfast has come a few pounds.  I suspect he’s around 22-23lbs which considering he wasn’t even 19.5 at his 9 month checkup is saying a lot.  We weighed him a few days ago on our scale and got 22lbs at least.  We can REALLY feel it when we pick him up.  Zack is turning into quite the tubbo (for him).

City of Men

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

If anybody wonders, the dystopian film Children of Men directed by Alfonso Cuarón is so good I can’t even form words or thoughts around it.  I (of course) am a fan of sci fi films like this–not flying cars and aliens but real people and landscapes presented in a realistic manner.  It actually made me cry.  Repeatedly.  And I’m not exactly a girl to cry at movies.  The story is so compelling and so emotional.  I can’t imagine any person not being pulled into the movie.

Wow.  Just wow.

Light

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

I hate to brag, but that is part of being a parent.  Zack does some cool things, but this weekend he did the most amazingly scientific thing yet.  He picked up a CD case while standing against a table in front of a window.  He likes chewing on pretty much everything and beating on everything.  In any case, the sun caught the jewel case’s surface.  Zack noticed the light reflected on to the wall.  After testing his baby theories, he realized he was the one causing the light to reflect and spent the next half hour reflecting his new found beam around the room. It wasn’t a fluke either because yesterday he spent fifteen minutes doing the same thing.
I don’t know about you, but that seems like pretty brilliant stuff for a 10 month old.

Hot Balloon Idol

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007

As we watched American Idol last night, my husband said of Haley Scarnato’s dress:

“It looks like she should have a burner between her legs…whooosh….whooosh…like a hot AIR balloon.”

I just about fell off my chair laughing.

Crazy Baby

Look who I caught doing weird crap…

Bits n’ Bobs

Sunday, March 11th, 2007

This weekend was pretty busy.  Fortunately my son was a trooper the whole time.  It warmed up on Sunday so he got his just reward.  He got his first bicycle ride.  He of course didn’t pedal, but he got to ride in the trailer which (as it turns out) he LOVES.

On Saturday the three of us made a trip to Gameworks in Auburn Hills for a “Meet and Greet” (unofficial) for Epinions.  It was fun.  I wish we’d have been able to stay out past 6:00pm or so but with a baby that possibility was nixed.  Regardless we had a great time & I enjoyed meeting the faces to go with the nicknames.

Fourth Time’s a Charm

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

My computer is officially dead.  For the fourth time.  In the last year.  Instead of replacing the motherboard again, Best Buy got smart and said “hey, it would be cheaper if we gave this girl a new laptop and she paid for a new extended service contract.”  So I’m getting a new laptop.  If only Jeremy would answer his phone and would get home early we’d run over there and straighten things out.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned it is that these contracts are EVERYTHING.  This is the second laptop they’ve replaced in addition to fixing a variety of other things.  They’ve paid for themselves over and over again.  SCORE!

Baby Baths are F-U-N

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

Zack loves his baths.  He’d sit in the tub all day and night if he could.  Of course if he did that he’d shrivel up like a little raisin.  In lieu of his love, here are a few pictures of the cutest baby in the world–now 10 months old!

Laughing

Monday, March 5th, 2007

I actually saw two things yesterday that made me laugh.  The first was Idiocracy.  Not a *great* movie but it does have some outstandingly funny moment.  Definitely worth checking out for people who enjoy Mike Judge and for people who usually don’t find comedy funny.

The second thing was Family Guy.  That show cracks me up. From Stewie drinking chaw to Peter Peter becoming a redneck and wanting to fly his truck it was absolutely hilarious.  Oh yeah…there were the dancing prom night fetuses.  That tickled my funny bone.

I can see (again)

Sunday, March 4th, 2007

3 years ago I had CustomLasik.  My distance vision is still 20-20 which is great.  Unfortunately my close up vision has deteriorated to the point that I had to get glasses.  I guess I’m getting old.  I now have “reading glasses.”  The process to buy glasses has changed a lot–styles are more styling and more comfy.  I guess thats a good thing.  I got these cute little Nicole Miller ones.  They are red (or “Cayenne” as the frame says). They look like this but red (with black trim).  Don’t expect me to rock them too often…
