I got a new picture from Cheryl yesterday. In fact, if memory serves, it’s the closest I’ve come to seeing her since she left for London well over a year ago. She looks good…the same, actually. It’s nice to know you have a sister aside from the too-infrequent e-mails and instant messaging sessions. Now…I just hope she really does return in January. I’ve already offered up the 92 Accord for her use. Maybe that’ll lure her back…or maybe not.

Speaking of Cheryl, she’s working on gathering together some rather difficult to find CD’s from England and sending them to me. I can’t wait…I’ve come to trust her judgment about 85%-90% of the time. I’ll forgive her for a few major misses.

Still sick. This darned head cold thing is really hanging on. My nose and eyes are the most troublesome. At least I can breathe like a normal human being. I refuse to go to the doctor for this stupid virus. It’s impossible for them to cure it, only treat the symptoms therefore it would be stupid to go someplace and be prescribed extra-expensive drugs that do nothing more than help me to stop sniffling and sneezing. I’ll go to CVS for that…

Why must I be sick? My general funkiness has turned into sneezing, coughing and nose running. When will my illness cease? Grrrr…

I saw The Ring at MJR over the weekend. I’ve decided that matinees are wonderful things. I can’t stand being in the theater with a bunch of fart-joking kids. Seriously…it interrupts the pleasure I get out of seeing feature films! The noon matinee is wonderful. A bunch of old people, parents and children, and squares (like myself) getting the most out of their discounted tickets. Ahhh…the joys of being and “elder.” Anyway, The Ring was pretty good. It actually creeped me out as much as I’d hoped. It’s not the best horror film out there, but it does in fact rank as one of the best of the year…or at least in my opinion.

Also, I went to a baby shower yesterday…errr…the man and I went to a baby shower yesterday. Congrats to Kristian and Sara on their soon to be born “doodlebug.”

Happy 24th Birthday, Cheryl! You’re seriously ancient now! Oh, and by the way her b-day was on the 23rd. I wished her a timely birthday, just didn’t post it here quickly enough.

The Escort is officially gone. My parents were able to sell it for $1,000 on Monday. This makes me very happy. Not so much for the money, but actually to have the beast off of my hands. After owning the car for going on 9 years it’s gone…forever…she was a great vehicle.

After a relaxing yet hectic weekend in the Soo, I’m home (errr…at work). Anyway, it was a great time and I had the pleasure of witnessing the Laker hockey team beak the weak and sucky Mercyhurst team. Of course, Lake State has as of recent been having some issue putting together a decent team so both nights games were pretty competitive. It’s about time that the Lakers got their act together. It’s been a good six or seven years since they’ve been even close to decent.

I spent $20 on nickel slots at the casino. Kewadin sucked out my money within about 1/2 hour time. Jennie on the other hand came away victorious and treated us both to the buffet (crab legs!) at about 11:30pm. Not a good time to eat, mind you, but fun nonetheless.

Our trip up north was great. Boy do I miss Lake State…

I’m so amazingly excited to be headed to Lake State this coming weekend. Jennie and I have made all the plans and are leaving for the great white north tomorrow morning at 9:30am. I can’t wait…it’s been over two years since my last visit! Woo-hoo!

Also, the wedding photos finally came in. I can’t even remember when we ordered them, but I’m really happy to have them in. So. Tonight, I have to visit Target to purchase a pretty 8×10 frame to hold our portrait. Awww…how sweet. How sickening.

Don’t mind my complaints. My poor nose is unhappy…I’m sick in an allergy hay fever sort of way. Ick.

Aside from that, I found a *very* interesting and very strange reporoduction of M.C. Escher’s classic Ascending and Descending. The trick? Well, it’s all made out of Legos. See it here.

I’m more than just a bit disturbed by the fact that there is an ENTIRE SITE dedicated to You Can’t Do That On Television. I watched the show on Nickelodeon when I was a kid and from what I can tell for about the seasons 1985-1987…but to love it enough to have an entire society, conduct interviews, and post ENTIRE EPISODES…well, that’s just insane. Check the insanity. Here.

Also, I feel kind of icky today. I did yesterday also. My belly is a bit upset and I’m woozy (is that a word?) Anyway. Ick.

You Are

Tangerine

You are a beautiful person, in a wistful kind of way. If you could, you would spend all your time daydreaming and writing poetry. You are a tragic beauty. You are sensitive and caring, and you don’t take insults well. You don’t smile much, but when you do, you really mean it. People like to be around you because you are a calming influence. You have an appreciation for all things beautiful, and you probably have some potted plants. You also most likely own a cat. You like Sundays and hot tea. You will spend your entire life yearning for quiet beauty, which is a rarity in this world, so you read a lot. Everyone you know thinks you’re “nice.”

This weekend was *just* what I’d hoped it would be. I spent much of it just relaxing an lounging with an occasional thoughful movie thrown in for good measure. Not that I can actually remember at all what I watched. I did manage to get some much needed housework done…including the front porch which had gotten little attention since the major leaks of earlier this year. It looks great now.

On Sunday, JT and I went to a rather eventful 4-year-old Birthday party. Little Dakota had a great time. I got a kick out of seeing all the Spiderman items ranging from slippers and a backpack to a webshooter (more on this in a second) and a town. Our gift, a six-foot-long stuffed snake, went over very well. He carried it around for much of the afternoon. But that webshooter…well, it shoots silly string or, if in a pinch, water. After seeing the rate at which the thing ate silly string it’s understandable why water is an option also. In the matter of just 10 or 15 minutes (at the most) Dakota managed to use up FOUR cans of the pink foamy string stuff. Ha! It’s all over the yard now :)

And so my relaxing weekend went. I’m happy with it :)

So last night was my big TV watching evening. Both Survivor and CSI (on CBS) rank among my favorite shows on television today. One’s a guilty pleasure, the other just fascinates me. I guess I’ll leave it up to you to decide which is which.

Survivor was a blast last night. I’m annoyed as hell at Rob. That guy is a punk ass idiot. He doesn’t have two brain cells to rub together, has a sharp temper, and often leads or ends a sentence with the word “dude.” God. I wish this guy could be kicked off. Alas, the other tribe lost immunity and they thusly kicked Ghandia off. She was FOR SURE a bad seed of sorts. She meant well, but her presence was really dividing the tribe of elders.

CSI was already fun. I very much enjoyed both plot lines this week. One was a somewhat twisted story of a murdered couple with the stepmom sleeping with her stepson and the ex-wife…well, she was pretty much to blame for the incidents that led to the calling of CSI. The other story was something you’d have to have seen to have believed. A high school girl on PCP committed a rather gruesome murder. One of the ickiest one yet.

It sucks getting older. When I was a kids, weeks lasted an eternities. Days seemed to last forever. Today, at age 25 3/4, weeks go by in a flash. Just as Friday comes, it seems the weekend is done. Monday rolls around much too quickly for my taste. Fortunately, work isn’t too bad…otherwise I think I’d have gone insane by now (no comments from the peanut gallery, please).

Anyway, this Saturday I saw Red Dragon. A BIG improvement on the horribly dated 1986 Manhunter (Michael Mann). Sure, the movie was better…it’s just not a masterpiece. But, if you’re a sucker for serial killers you can’t go wrong with the flick :)

I have a new favorite on television. I’ve always been a sucker for horror anthology series. Well, UPN now airs new episodes of The Twilight Zone…hosted by Forest Whitaker (known more for his acting in movies like Panic Room, Ghost Dog, and Light It Up). Anyway, last night the two stories were equally thought-provoking and chilling. The first dealt with a young woman sent back in time to save the word from Adolph Hitler. In true Twilight Zone fashion, she thinks she saves the day but the audience quickly finds out otherwise. The second story dealt with a young woman’s run in with a car and her subsequent “life.” Very sad, very strange, and very entertaining.

Yeah for UPN!

Really. How young do I look? I went into Fantastic Sam’s with my husband over the weekend to get a haircut. I spoke with the hairdresser for a few minutes as she decided what to do with my coif. Well, after a while she finally asks if JT and I are married. I reply, yes. She responds “But you look so young!” I said back to her that I’m older than I look, but asked how old she thought I was. She paused for a moment and responded “Well, when you walked in the front door I thought you were going to want an updo for Homecoming!” I laughed and then responded…yeah, but I’m 25…almost 26 years old! She seemed rather embarrassed.

She finally came back with something to the effect of “I bet it’s hard for you to buy beer.” My hubby piped in and said “I even get carded when I’m with her.” It just amazes me that somebody could think that I was 8-10 years younger than I actually am. COME ON PEOPLE. I can’t look that young!
